Holiday Help

Many children miss their biological families and feel the absence of familiar traditions, even if their home situation was challenging.  Seeing others celebrate with their families can amplify feelings of loneliness.

·         For some children, holidays in a supportive foster family can provide new traditions and a sense of belonging.  Uncertainty about holiday plans or how their current caregivers will celebrate can be stressful for children.

·         Transitions during the holidays, such as being moved to a new placement, can create additional stress.

·         Foster families may introduce children to new holiday activities, such as decorating, baking, or community events.  This can be an opportunity for children to experience stability and joy.

We are so thankful to the organizations and individuals who have donated gifts for CASA volunteers to bring to children or provide at our holiday parties.  CASA volunteers always step in to provide extra attention and encouragement when foster families need that assistance. Many types of resources for older youth can be found on our website at https://www.nebraskacasa.org/olderyouthresources.html

We are also grateful to those foster parents who go out of their way to make the holidays memorable, creating a nurturing environment that helps children feel included.

Many children in foster care are placed separately from their siblings, making the holidays particularly bittersweet.  Visits may not always be possible due to logistical or legal issues.

For children in foster care, the holidays are often a mix of challenges and opportunities. The support of CASA volunteers and foster families through thoughtful planning, and inclusive community efforts make a significant difference in turning the season into a positive experience. Simple acts of kindness make more of a difference than you can imagine.
